A2C

Hello my pals......it's been a while since I was last here...sorry about that...anyhoo, we are here asking for your help...

Some of you might remember that in 2013 my idiot typing assistant rode his bike all the way from our home here in England to Amsterdam in the Netherlands....he went with his friends and, together, they raised enough money to help Rianna's Fund build much needed schools in Africa....

The `fund is very close to our heart.....in January 2003, Rianna, a young girl just eight years old, died tragically when a tree fell at her school in the village where we live. Rianna’s Fund children’s charity was established to help and support underprivileged children around the world reach their full potential. The Fund has been able to develop and support many projects, including a home for orphans in Kenya, the building of a new school for over 640 children in Kampala, Uganda and more recently a number of projects in India, which include building a new children’s home in Mumbai....

...well, we are taking to the roads again and in September we shall be cycling over 300 miles from BT HQ in Ashtead to Cologne in Germany with a team of friends to help raise money for Rianna's Fund.
This year, we are setting the ambitious target for the A2C ride of raising enough funding to build 3 new classroom blocks, each of 3 classrooms, at 3 different rural schools in Uganda. Our aim is to end each day’s ride having raised enough money to fund the building at one of the 3 schools.  Each community has made a start on providing education for their children but they need help to improve their facilities. Our aim is to fund the building of a 3 classroom block at each location, and if we can raise enough, to equip each class with desks, chairs and learning materials.

Bunabololi is in the poorest area of Uganda, near Mbale on the Eastern border with Kenya. The community set up a nursery 2013 in a mud constructed building. It has expanded to teaching 134 children in 6 classes.

Covenant School is located near Uganda’s second town, Jinja, in a remote rural area. It was set up by a Ugandan couple from the area, to help children with HIV/AIDS to get an education. Rianna’s Fund financed a classroom block last year, and the school has thrived, increasing to 322 children. School performance has been strong, with last year’s top class all passing the Uganda secondary school entrance exam.

Hope Hill was started 3 years ago by the local community, as the nearest school is 5km away, accessible only on foot.  The intention was to educate children aged 4 to 8, until they were old enough to walk to the existing school. Academic performance has been very good, with the help of a local woman who runs a school in Kampala. There are now 120 children attending and being taught in poorly constructed building.
This is an ambitious goal, and if we only reach part of the ambition it will materially change children’s lives. If we manage to achieve the full A2C funding goal, the ride will lead to nearly 500 children being educated every year. Hurrah!

...we might even be able to get the typist to learn something...
